Thanks for all the shout-outs; heaven knows I always enjoy seeing my name bandied about on the Internet, especially on Tom’s site.
Anyway, great report. Much better than mine. And hey, if you decide to drive down again next year, feel free to crash at my place if need be. Central PA is a good halfway point between DC and Long Island.
Giving Groth his own panel would be PERFECT! That would solve the small problem we had at the otherwise enlightening Comics Criticism panel with his not speaking “enough.”
And I second that Big Ups to Bill Kartalopolous! What a great moderator.
Re: Gary–Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. The guy really did carve out a whole new way to discuss comics, and then published comics that could bear that kind of discussion. He’s really a major, major figure in comics history. And he has a very, very specific outlook regarding comics and comics criticism that really needs to be gone over at length, both where I agree with it and where I don’t. In a group panel he’s kind of just dropping these bunker-buster statements and then, through no fault of his own or anyone else’s, we really have to move on.

Yeah, it happened both this year and last. Where I probably could have had a question for each other panelist, I had dozens for Gary alone.
