It works in so many ways: as a horror comic; as a satire of Batman; as a pretty vicious critique of Batman and superheroes generally; and most miraculously, as a Batman comic, a comic about a Batman who has finally snapped. The art is so textural, the pacing mesmerizing, the physical business impeccably choreographed. I’m really kind of amazed by it.
