Spider-Men

Over at Comic Book Resources, I talked with J.M. DeMatteis about writing Spider-Man in anticipation of our (!!!) comic Marvel Adventures Spider-Man #19 — in stores tomorrow!

  1. Davey Oil says:

Sean, I bet you’ve written about Kraven’s Last Hunt before. Where can I find this writing?
Have we never talked about this story? The second issue of this arc, purchased at the five and dime in Northport where Jack Kerouac used to do something or other, was the comic that drove me to find a comic book shop the following month. The clerk at the five and dime didn’t have any answers about Spidey’s being buried alive or whoever the hell Vermin was and I knew there must be a direct market out there where adults could teach me the truth about such things and where the next issue could be reliably found.
Also great, the What The–?! Spider-Ham version of this story.
I think what’s cool about this comic is that it could have been another grim and gritty reinvention of a children’s entertainment but it’s not. It’s just a story about the kind of crazy you’ve gotta be to be a supervillain and how dangerous it is to make it your business to interfere with those crazies. That’s good fuel for making a nine year old Davey Oil fall in love with superheroes.

  2. I never have written about it! I suppose I should. Yours is a great take on it.
